Mick Boogie & Terry Urban Presents – 2009: The Grammy Remix Project

Well… as we are gearing up to go to LA for the Grammys… (lots of cool parties I’m doing on Fri, Sat, and Sunday by the way…), Terry Urban and I thought it would be cool to honor the Grammys by doing a special remix project of our favorite Grammy nominees for 2009.
Ironically, looking back at our projects the past 12 months, it seems we were definitely barking up the right tree… since Coldplay, Jay-Z and Adele all were nominated for multiple Grammys. We decided to go through the list of nominees and work with our favorite producers to come up with some really cool takes on your favorite nominated songs.Ever wonder how Kanye would sound rapping on Kenna’s song? What if The Jonas Brothers sang over some hiphop breakbeats? What if Thom Yorke sang on Lupe’s “Superstar?” What if Sara Bareilles bought a sampler and not a piano? The list goes on… but the answers can be found here.

Brother Ali’s Plans for 2009

Apparently I wasn’t the only one who was slightly confused – as Mike over at Midwest Broadcast saw the same banner as me over at Rhymesayers.com. The most exciting part about this is that means a full length Brother Ali album is dropping next fall! Here is the scoop behind it from both Mike and Rhymesayers:
It’s been two years since Brother Ali released the critically acclaimed album The Undisputed Truth, and as the Rhymesayers lyrical heavyweight and producer Ant put the finishing touches on their upcoming follow up (Fall ‘09) the dynamic duo cap off the last two years with a new EP and a full-length DVD.
Nine tracks featuring two highly sought after b-sides and seven new and previously unreleased songs including “Philistine David”, which was featured in the Jonathan Demme directed documentary, Jimmy Carter Man From Plains and “The Believer” a collaboration with Slug of Atmosphere. In addition to the new EP, The Truth Is Here also contains a full length DVD that features Brother Ali’s sold out homecoming performance during The Undisputed Truth Tour at the legendary First Avenue nightclub in Minneapolis as well as interviews, a special commentary by Brother Ali, and videos of “Take Me Home” and “Uncle Sam Goddamn” from The Undisputed Truth. The Truth Is Here captures a key period in the career of what many have called one of the most promising voices to emerge from the underground this century and will be a must have for any and every Brother Ali fan.

Rhymefest – Supersonic (Chucky Cheese) *Charles Hamilton Diss*
“Go play rock Band with Asher Roth”
Charles just got destroyed. All of this because Charles dropped a few lines about him in a rap battle the other day with MC Serious Jones.
Laughin at the artwork too….any real Charles Hamilton fan should know – not that I am one.

Lil Wayne – Every Girl f. Drake, Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda & Mack Maine (prod. The Bizness)
This track apparently will drop on a Young Money compilatin or something – well I kinda like it I gotta say – well the beat at least. This track was chosen as the single the rest of these will just be on it.
Not gonna lie these are some of the better tracks to drop from all these guys in the last few weeks.

Lil Wanye x Katie Couric Interview (Preview)
Days until Lil Wayne and Katie Couric Interview: 6
Rick Ross – Magnificent f. John Legend (prod. J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League) + The-Dream – Rockin’ That Shit (rmx) f. Fabolous, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross & Ludacris

Rick Ross – Magnificent f. John Legend (prod. J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League)
Rick Ross just released a track called “Mafia Music” a few days ago – that was the street single….this is the official single with a hook from John Legend. Not sure what I think of it. I think I like Ross over heavier beats like most of his songs on his debut album Port of Miami.
+++

The-Dream – Rockin’ That Shit (rmx) f. Fabolous, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross & Ludacris
Now this is a solid remix becasue this is a pretty steady line up. Most of these guys hold it down when it comes to the remix game – Ross is kinda weak sometimes. Luda straight kills it as usual. I loved the orignal version of this track too – expect The Dream’s new album Love vs. Money to drop March 3rd. This version will appear on the album.
Teriyaki Boyz – Teriya-King f. Kanye West & Big Sean (prod. Kanye West) + Juelz Santana & Lil Wayne – Rock Star

Teriyaki Boyz – Teriya-King f. Kanye West & Big Sean (prod. Kanye West)
The Teriyaki Boyz are a hip hop group out of Tokyo, Japan. The DJ for the group, Nigo, is also the fonder of Bathing Ape Clothing like and record label (B)Ape Sounds which the Teriyaki Boyz are signed to. They enlist Kanye to produced and drop some lines on the track. Big Sean who is signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D Music also drops a few bars.
+++

Juelz Santana & Lil Wayne – Rock Star
Information has been tossed around that these two were gonna release an album some time soon. A few tracks have dropped over the last few months and another has dropped today. But recentlyey to no surprise it kinda sucks…just like the others.
Except…..”I Can’t Feel My Face.”
Q-Tip – Renaissance Rap (rmx) f. Busta Rhymes, Raekwon & Lil Wayne + Young Jeezy – My President is Black (rmx) f. Jay-Z

Q-Tip – Renaissance Rap (rmx) f. Busta Rhymes, Raekwon & Lil Wayne
Now this is a remix. Busta, Raekwon and Lil Wayne hop on Q-Tip’s track Renaissance Rap. I don’t see this on Tip’s new album The Renaissance – which foolishly I have only briefly checked out. Everyone has nice verses on this one. Refreshing.
+++
Young Jeezy – My President is Black (rmx) f. Jay-Z
Well the first version of this remixed dropped last week but Jeezy decided to make it official by adding his own new verse, which is alright – he takes some shots at Bill Old’ Reilly who last week on his show critized Jeezy for his lyrics, language and performance during a show in Washington DC, which was held in honor of Obama’s inaguration.
On a side note for those who chose to click the above links -I don’t know why sites choose to advertise a product using those images…but whatever…
J.Loonz: Nerd-Hop, Vol. 1 (Mixtape)

I really have been meaning to post this for a day or two now – especially considering I have listened to it a dozen or so times on my iPod since it first arrived in my inbox. Jordan Looney aka. J.Loonz just dropped the first of hopefully many mixtapes in his series called Nerd Hop. Now – I have been bumping the hell out for a few days now for a couple reasons. First off he reps Minnesota (shouts to St. Paul) and he reps Chicago. Second of all the rhymes are fresh as hell, lyrical and intelligent but smooth enough to just jam to. Finally just listen to track 3 – “Igniter”…ill as hell. But damn…I swear the dude’s voice is a perfect combination of Q-Tip and Lil Boosie.
I leave you with the link and some words from J himself about the project.
J.Loonz: Nerd-Hop, Vol. 1 Mixtape
“Nerd-hop is a state of mind. It isn’t a fashion statement or a style of music. At its very roots nerd-hop is the idea that no matter the situation, decision or whatever it is your doing stay true to thyself. Don’t be afraid to be who you are at all times. Don’t let other people define what it means to be you because every definition is a box. Every box is a limit. At the end of the day we accept that we are nerds (we go to Northwestern, we like class, we aren’t thugs).
But what is a nerd? It usually holds a negative connotation: socially awkward, weak, always stuck in a book. We are shining a new light on the nerd community. To us a nerd is some one who is intelligent and passionate to the point of insanity about anything. You could be a nerd about fashion, music, sports, even selling yayo (shit just look at the Clipse: coke NERDS to the fullest). At the end of the day if your like “fuck them nerd hop dudes” then you’re the most NERD HOP person because you stayed true to how you felt and didn’t try to hop on just because we said it was cool.
Try out the nerd-hop state of mind for a day and see if you don’t feel better, clear-headed, and more confident. Embrace your nerdom. Be who you are, and let everybody else try and figure it out. NERD-HOP LIVES.”- J. Loonz
Raekwon & Ghostface Killah – Criminology 2

Raekwon & Ghostface Killah – Criminology 2
Well this straight up kills – Chef Raekwon and Ghostface collab for a track of Rae’s new album OB4CL2 which hopefully is still dropping April 7th. WU TANG.
I love the original track too – check out the video below – ya heard.
Maino – All The Above f. T-Pain + Lil Wayne – Troublemaker f. Young Money (TAGGED UP)

Maino – All The Above f. T-Pain
Hi Haters. Maino drops another track off his upcoming album this time features who else but T-Pain on this Just Blaze produced track. I kinda dig it. I’m pretty sure this is officially the second single as well.
+++
Lil Wayne – Troublemaker f. Young Money (TAGGED UP)
This is all tagged up but it’s some new Wayne – I’ll drop the CDQ at the bottom of a random post later. I think it’s safe to say a Wayne track drops daily.
Also I’m not exactly a huge fan of the track but check out the footage of Wayne performing his new “rock” song “Prom Queen” on a tour stop out in Cali.
Nipsey Hu$$le – Hu$$le In The House! (Video + MP3)
Nipsey Hu$$le – Hu$$le In The House!
Damn this track is just straight up WEST COAST. This track dropped back in November and some how I ignored it. But the video just dropped and it’s equally as gangster….I know right. This is when I hate livin in the city with no ride – I would be bumpin this up and down the streets all day.
KRISS KROSS.
Jay-Z – Money Goes + N.A.S.A. – N.A.S.A. Music f. Method Man, E-40 & DJ Swamp

Apparently a left over from American Gangster – I think the beat is kinda fresh. Not a very breathtaking track but it doesn’t seem like it’s American Gangster-ish anyway – if that makkes any sense. Though that album clearly wasn’t one of his best though it has a few gems.

N.A.S.A. – N.A.S.A. Music f. Method Man, E-40 & DJ Swamp
Another day – another N.A.S.A. leak…this thing just needs to drop already. I’ve really been diggin all these tracks that have dropped so far – everything is a gold mine. How often are Method Man and E-40 on the same track? I wanna hear the whole thing in its entirety in one sitting already damnit. The Spirit of Apollo, whose album art is above, drops Feb 27.
N.A.S.A. – The Mayor f. The Cool Kids, Ghostface Killah, Scarface & DJ AM + Lil Wayne – Prom Queen (Dirty/CDQ)

N.A.S.A. – The Mayor f. The Cool Kids, Ghostface Killah, Scarface & DJ AM
If you don’t know about this N.A.S.A. project yet – your slackin. Just look at the guests on this track. N.A.S.A.’s superstar filled album The Spirit of Apollo drops February 27th. I just wish this would come out/leak already so I can hear the rest of it.

- Lil Wayne – Prom Queen (Dirty/CDQ)
- Lil Wayne – Prom Queen (Right Click + Save As)
I dropped this a few days ago but it was all tagged up – here are some high quality explicit versions of Lil Wayne’s first single “Prom Queen” off yes…his rock album Rebirth which drops April 7th. The anticipation is killing me…….
Zion I: "Caged Bird, Pt.1 ft. Brother Ali"
Zion I: “Caged Bird, Pt.1 ft. Brother Ali”
Ok. It’s over. Brother Ali officially tore this one apart as joins Oakland hip hop duo Zion I for this amazing track off Zion I’s new album The Take Over which should hit stores February 17th.
I know I hype beats all the time but this one is pretty epic for all of these MCs.
Let’s keep up the guest verses Ali – your straight killin latley.
Well obviously.
M.anifest MP3 + B96 Interview + Freestyle
M.anifest is an African born MC who reps Minneapolis – he gets lots of love from the Rhymesayers family, performed at Soundset 08 and has been labeled “Songwriter of the Year” by City Pages . The dude definitely has some interesting stuff to say so check out the above and below interview of him live on air with Peter Parker, of Minneapolis hip hop station B96. He also drops a pretty dope freestyle at the end of the first vid.
Also check out the new track below as it’s to be featured on his new EP called Coming To America. Also as mentioned in the video he has an album called Manifestations on iTunes and at Fifth Element/Cheapo right now – so check it.
Shouts to Midwest Broadcast for holdin it down for my hometown.

B.O.B. – Lonely People (Video) + Ya Boy – Got The Power (Video)
Another old track gets a video – this time it’s from ATLien and T.I. protege B.O.B. – who I have posted lot’s of material from before. Now this video is the definition of sex, drugs and rock and roll. Though this track will unfortunatley never make it to an abum because – let’s not kid ourselves what are the chances a Beatles sample will get cleared. All things aside this track is pretty dope and the video is worth a watch. It’s not like you have anything else to do.
+++
Ya Boy, a west coast MC, seems to have been inspired by Obama so he samples 90s one hit wonder The Hit Crew and makes a decent track out of it – video ain’t bad either.
The Cool Kids – Pennies (Video) + Kid Cudi Footage + Clipse Interview
The Clipse hype their new album with this nice little interview. I figured I’d toss this in there for any Clipse fans out there cause you know when their new album Till The Cakset Drops….it could be one of the best albums of 09. I’m just sayin.
DJ Earworm – United States of Pop 2008

Rick Ross – Mafia Music + Drake – Unstoppable ft. Santogold & Lil Wayne (Produced by Diplo)

Rick Ross drops the first single for his new album Deeper Than Rap. This beat is pretty good – classic for Ross. I liked some tracks off Trilla but I hope this next album is a bit better – he has had quite the year so he he as a lot to write about. I don’t really get why people hate on Ross so much, I think he is pretty consistant.
+++

Drake – Unstoppable ft. Santogold & Lil Wayne (Produced by Diplo)
One of the better tracks I’ve heard off Drake’s new mixtape So Far Gone – this one produced by one of my favorite DJs Diplo. Beat is pretty crazy and it has a decent verse from Wayne and nice hook from Santogold. Drake is a Canadian MC who is currently sighned to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment.
Lil Wayne – Prom Queen

I guess Lil Wayne literally turned into a rock star over the weeknd – as a album title, release date and single for Lil Waynes rock album were all reased. Rebirth – Waynes new rock album is set to drop April 7th and his first single Prom Queen, which leaked over the weekend is set to drop as the first single on iTunes this Tuesday.
I’m a huge Weezy fan and I’m usually pretty open to his projects – but this is just getting ridiculous.
For now there is only a tagged up version.
YV Feat. T-Pain, Fabo & Polow Da Don – Own Step + N*E*R*D Interview

YV Feat. T-Pain, Fabo & Polow Da Don – Own Step
YV is Polow Da Don’s new project – I think it’s kinda catchy – a decent first street single that could make it to the air waves.

More from that MTV N*E*R*D interview – this time they talk about their fans all around the world and what genre of music they cosndier themselves in.
