Last of The Record Buyers: Lazerbeak vs. Medium Zach
For more info check out the event’s MySpace. Lots of solid information about it below – looks like a couple more events like this are coming up in the future. Does anyone know how to hold it down like Minneapolis? Psssh….
Muja Messiah + Peter Parker B96 Interview & Freestyle
Alright it’s that time of the week…Thursday – yup Wednesday nights Peter Parker over at B96 in Minneapolis does his special series Homegrown HeatRocks where he profiles local Minnesota MCs. This time he has in Muja Messiah who I think is one of the more talented MCs in the game right now. I know I’ve been posting this dude’s stuff since I started this here blog back in the summer. So check the search bar up top for some of his music.
Anyway a dope interview with Muja as he drops a dope freestyle at the end (over a dope beat as well ha.) He also talks how he met Russel Simmons and what it’s like to be in the hop hop game right now.
If you don’t have Muja’s album Adventures of a B-Boy D-Boy yet your slackin. So get it.
Shouts to Midwest Broadcast and of course Mr. Peter Parker.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony – The Game Ain’t Ready + Chamillionaire – Creepin’ (rmx) f. The Game & Ludacris

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony – The Game Ain’t Ready
I knew these guys were all touring together, that is the orignal five members from Bone Thugs. But looks like this little jem has surfaced – new track off their upcoming album Uni-5. I would not mind Bone Thugs returning to glory…
+++

Chamillionaire – Creepin’ (Solo) (rmx) f. The Game & Ludacris
The first single off Chamillionaires highly anticpated 3rd album Venom just got a remix this time it picks up The Game for a nice verse. I still say Luda is the one that murders this track the most. The original has been out a minute now but this should hold everyone over until the next single drops.
The Clipse and Rick Rubin In The Studio

Anyone that actually knows and cares about hip hop should view this image as a very good sign.
Rick Rubin is officially in the studio with one of my favorite hip hop duos of all time The Clipse. I smell an early contender for album of the year.
Their album Till The Casket Drops is set to drop sometime this summer – but the day circled on my calender is March 9th because the first sigle drops and is apparently called “Kinda Like A Big Deal.” How fitting.
Get the full scoop over at Pitchfork.
UPDATE:
Looks like the new single will also feature Kanye West – here is review of the track heard by a few industry insiders. Link.
Mac Lethal – At Least There’s Twitter

Mac Lethal – At Least There’s Twitter
Well the king of punclines is at it again – Kansas City MC and Rhymesayers signee Mac Lethal drops a track, this time he verbally beats up on all you Twitter users and calls out American’s who talk politics and don’t know what the fuck they are talking about.
I’m a Twitter user and proud of it – I think it will be a pretty cool social networking tool and it has a bright future. Oh by the way follow me on Twitter: P-P-P-WELBS or check out my updates on the very bottom of the page.
Anyway this will appear on Mac Lethal’s mixtape Special Reserve 4.
Shouts to Mike over at Midwest Broadcast for given me the heads up as always.
Cecil Otter – 1999….The Curse of Gab (Video) + M.anifest cops K’naans album
Wow, I was not expecting this but now my favorite track from Cecil Otter’s album Rebel Yellow has got a video! Cecil who is part of the Doomtree posse was recently signed to Sage Francis label Strange Famous Records. This is good news because Cecil will finally get re-release of his album Rebel Yellow to a much bigger audience with wider distribution. Also keep an eye out because Cecil is hard at work on his next album Porcelain Revolver.
+++
Also check out this footage of Minnesota MC M.anifest going over to Fifth Element in Uptown, Minenapolis to pick up fellow MC K’naans new album. Both MCs are originally from Africa and both have Minnesota connections.
Unfortuantley I have been sleeping hardcore on posting any tracks from K’naan for whatever reason. I’ve been bumpin his album like crazy but I forgot to post any links before his album dropped last week. Check his Myspace out right now or else.
Kanye performs Strong on Vh1 Storytellers
One of the greatest performers of our generation is at it again. This time he resurrects “Stronger” and gives it a bit of a live twist on VH1’s Stortellers which Kanye will be featured on this Saturday. I think it looks like a pretty dope set up they got there – Kanye definitley knows how to make his vision come to life. I wanna here some other tracks though….”Good Life” please thanks.
VH1 Storytellers with Kanye West is on this Saturday, February 28 at 9PM.
Flo Rida – Right Round (Video)
The mainstream single of the year now has a video. The video doens’t exactly match the epicness of the track when I first heard it but it will do.
Great..now this track is gonna be stuck in my head all day – as if it wasn’t already. Damn….when it comes to this song I swear Flo Rida and I have the same dance moves. I’ve been dancin like that to this song for weeks!
Anyway enjoy loving it or enjoy hating on it.
On a side note his next single is called “Shone” - the video for that has also dropped – the single has been out for months – even before “Right Round.” Check it out right here.
Cam’ron – I Used To Get It In Ohio + Rapper Big Pooh – Radio

Cam’ron – I Used To Get It In Ohio
Killa Cam drops yet another atomic bomb with this dope track. Beat is fire and lyrics are fire. Cam is back.
Plus a Minnesota shout out? Hell fuckin yeah.
Cam’s album Crime Pays drops May 5th. So mark your calenders.

Rapper Big Pooh of hip hop group Little Brother drops a track off his upcoming solo album Delightful Bars which drops March 10th. Met this dude at a in store performance with Dialated Peoples at Fifth Element a few years back – real nice dude actually apprecaited the fans. So check him out.
Illuminous 3 Update + Peter Parker Calls out Minnesota Hip Hop Community
I’ve been followin these guys for a minute now, Illuminous 3 repping South MPLS, but I took extra notice in the last couple weeks cause I’m still bumping this Franz Diego EP that I dropped here a couple weeks ago. If you still don’t have this, I give up on you. So click right here and get it.
So anyway Illuminous 3 (dopest logo ever) got an album out now called Room, it’s good of course. So the guys are dropping in to tell you about and all the projects they got right now. So make sure you pick up the FREE mixtapes they got out on the internet. I got all the links for you below.

B96’s Peter Parker Calls Out Minnesota Hip Hop Community
I think what this guy is doing is incredible. He is on mainstream radio station and he is doing real things and supporting Minnesota Hip Hop. I don’t see many people doing things like this. Listen to the man he speaks the truth. I wish I was around back in Minnesota at a time like this. Also check out his YouTube page right now to see all the dope artists he has coming through, especially his Homegrown Heatrocks Series where he brings in some local groups and MCs.
Bout time someone did this, I love Rhymesayers to death but shit guys, there is other stuff out there.
Shouts to Mr. Peter Parker for doing it right.
also good looking Midwest Broadcast.
Yo another track from Mike Posner and the Brain Trust. I dropped the video for his remix of Beyonce’s “Halo” a couple days back, if you haven’t watched that yet your slackin. Well any way not sure about the title of this track or anything but its catchy as hell. Mike Posner’s mixtape Matter of Time drops March 1st. You know I’ll be all over it so make sure you download it when it drops Sunday. Re-blogged via: nerdhop: so i just peeped the final mixed and mastered version of the mixtape, and its incredible. mike posner and the brain trust ppl. watch for this shit. video w/ my blessing posted above dj zj
P.O.S. Live Tracks + Tour Video

Well to me, as of late posting something about P.O.S. is like putting on socks, its pretty much a daily routine. This dude has had one hell of a couple weeks, he is getting positive press left and right. Not that I blame anyone – this album has already secured a spot in my Top of 2009. Anyway I just stumbled upon a handful of live tracks which are off P.O.S.’s new album Never Better. These tracks were spat over at the University of Minnesota’s Radio K. Pretty dope.
Also check out some home town pride from The Star Tribune.
P.O.S. – Goodbye (Live on Radio K)
P.O.S. – Optimist (Live on Radio K)
P.O.S. – Savion Glover (Live on Radio K)
props to Midwest Broadcast and Culture Bully.

612 be killin it.
T.I. feat. Kobe – This Is Detox (I Am Hip-Hop)

T.I. feat. Kobe – This Is Detox (I Am Hip-Hop)
It’s a bit unclear what this is from exactly but it sounds pretty dope. Some nice verses from T.I.P. and a hook from Kobe, not the second best player in the league but a hookman, who I only know from this track he did with Jim Jones. So until more info comes out thats all I got. So just sit back and bump this….
Also with that Dr. Dre – T.I. track that dropped last week and the title of this one…something is up…
The Dream – Walking On The Moon ft. Kanye West + T-Pain – Flight School ft. Kanye West

The Dream – Walking On The Moon ft. Kanye West
The time has come. Kanye has returned to just simply rapping a verse instead of singing it! But seriously these two kings of pop come together for one hell of a retro-80s synth club track. Kanye has often stated that The Dream is his favorite artist out right now so it’s good to see these two finally on a project together. Rumors have also surfaced over the last few months of a possible album together, but like that will ever happen.
Well I myself have often named The Dream the best hookman out in pop music right now – this track pretty much confirms that in my mind.
But really cares what I think.
The Dreams Love vs. Money drops March 10th. Cop it.
As a little bonus check out this other Dream track that surfaced this weekend.
+++

T-Pain – Flight School ft. Kanye West
This is actually just Pain and Kanye’s parts to a new track from G.O.O.D. music signee GLC. But since this is a some what Kanye related post I figured I would just drop it in here for kicks.
I’ll post the final official version wtih GLC’s verses as soon as it drops. Looks like this is going to be a pretty strong track when it’s all said and done.
props to NMC for both tracks.
DOOM – That’s That + Big Sean – Supa Dupa (Produced by WrighTrax)

MF Doom, who apparently dropped the MF, and now is just DOOM. Great another name change for this dude anyway…he just dropped another track from his much anticipated album Born Like This. Details are still minimal but word on the street is that it will feature production from the late J Dilla, Jake One and the rest from Doom himself.
+++

Big Sean – Supa Dupa (Produced by WrighTrax)
Big Sean – Million Dollars (Produced by WrighTrax)
Big Sean, signed to Kanye’s label G.O.O.D. Music has a very solid album on the way and two tracks of his just leaked over the weekend and damn are they good. I was definitely excited about this dude when he first started dropping some mixtapes. Now, I think both these are gonna be on his new mixtape UKNOBIGSEEAN which should drop within the next week or so. But really you should keep an eye out for his album Finally Famous which drops this spring.
Kid Cudi – Day N Nite (Video)
The single has been out for ages but Kid Cudi’s “Day N Nite” finally got a video and it premiered today on BET. Kanye also stopped through and dropped one hell of a verse.
This is for all the people who say Kanye isn’t hip hop anymore – are you kidding me.
Dr. Dre feat. T.I. & Nas – Topless

Dr. Dre feat. T.I. & Nas – Topless
Officially dead. Can’t find a link for this anywhere.
Well you would be a fool to not pick this up – 3 legends of the game on one track. I really like what T.I. does on this track and of course Nas does this thing as always. No word if this is to appear on Dr. Dre’s much anticipated Detox – I sorta hope not. Just isn’t the type of track I want to be on the follow up to one of the greastest albums ever, Dre’s 2001. Plus I hope he stays with West Coast MCs or guys he normally works with.
One hell of a track though.
Smitty ft. Slim Thug – Right Around The Corner + Jay-Rock – I Be On The Block

Smitty ft. Slim Thug – Right Around The Corner
Smitty makin the comeback – this time he samples Pink Floyd’s “The Great Gig in the Sky” and gets the boss hog outlaw Slim Thug on for a hook and verse. I feel like its the best use of that sample but I think it still sounds pretty good.
+++

I just posted a remix of his the other day now Jay Rock drops another track this time it’s produced by Bangladesh, who brought you one of the biggest tracks last year with “A Mill.” So you probably have a good idea what they beat will be like.
Mike Posner – Halo (Remix)
Spotted over at Midwest Broadcast, this is a pretty incredible cover remix of Beyonce’s Halo. Mike Posner and his back up band The Brain trust are a up and coming group out of Michigan. He sounds pretty good I think – fresh sound. He has a couple tracks out right now so check him below. He is also some of the magic behind G.O.O.D music artist Big Sean, as he has produced multiple tracks for him. Check out the video of him making this Beyonce remix too.
I’m workin on tracing down an mp3.
He has a mixtape dropping March 1st called Matter of Time.
- Big Sean – Who Knows ft. Mike Posner
- Mike Posner & The Brain Trust ft. Big Sean – Cooler Than Me
- Mike Posner – Fucked Up Now (Love Lockdown Remix)

Lil Wayne & Flo Rida Break Sales Records

The Carter 3 went triple platinum today and in honor of that drops a nice little track for the ocasion. Big ups Weezy you made it big. No way anyone in hip hop gets that many in a while.
Lil Wayne Goes Triple Platinum in Post Grammys Sales Boost
+++

“Flo Rida breaks his own record for most weekly digital song downloads as “Right Round” debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart with 636,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The total smashes the mark he set with “Low” (467,000) in the January 12, 2008, issue, which took into account sales from that season’s post-Christmas week. The tally for “Round” also surpasses the opening-week download record set just last week by “Crack a Bottle” from Eminem, 50 Cent & Dr. Dre (418,000).”
Flo Rida Destroys Digital Single Sales Record (Billboard.com)
I like this because it’s good news for the music industry. Higher sales records means more people are buying music.
Flo Rida “Right Round” Promo Pack (includes single & instrumental)
But if you were on your game you had it back in early January.
Jay-Z Blueprint 3 Updates + Young Jeezy – Welcome Back (Video)
Jay-Z talks about nis new album Blueprint 3 and why its all delayed and shit. All this while standing next to the best player in the NBA.
But if ya haven’t heard yet, Kanye says the beats on this album will be some of the best ever created in the histroy of hip hop. DAMN, I have nothing wrong with that! Watch the vid as Ye talks Blueprint 3 and drops one hell of a freestyle. Watch this I’m tellin you.
Kanye West Claims to Make Best Beat Ever.
+++
Well it’s Jeezy so I feel like I don’t even have to say anything – but there is the video for “Welcome Back” which I think is one of the better tracks off The Recession. Wow, performing dope songs across the country to sold out stadiums looks like the life! Purty cool video if you ask me, I like the editing for sure. Plus it’s nice glimpse into the life of Jeezy on the road…well sort of. Makes me wanna party though ha.
Naledge – I’m In Chicago Bitch

Naledge – I’m In Chicago Bitch
This song is amazing for 3 reasons.
- The lyrics
- The beat
- I’m literally in Chicago….BITCH
….now I must right a 4 page paper.
B.O.B. – Generation Lost (Video) + F. Stokes – So Into U (Video)
B.O.B. – Generation Lost (Right Click + Save As)
B.O.B. is pretty much killing it right now – this time he drops a video for the track “Generation Lost.” I don’t know how I missed this track the first time around (looks like it dropped back in Sept) – I’m not even 100% sure which project this came from. But the video is simple but this song doens’t need a complicated video its perfect for this song. The plucked violin strings are the perfect sound to back up B.O.B.’s crazy singing flow.
Cheeeck it out.
+++
I also wanted to post this video I spoted over at Midwest Broadcast. After a little research I discovered F. Stokes is actually an MC from Chicago. Anyway it’s a pretty dope little video but what really got my attention was the production from Doomtree’s Lazerbeak. I’ve loved his work with P.O.S., Mike Micitlan and the rest of the Doomtree posse so I checked it out and I don’t regret it.
Plus he got some Minnesota shout outs – hell yeah.
Was that Whoopi Goldberg at the :39 mark?
Jay Rock – All My Life (Remix) (Feat. The Game, Gorilla Zoe & Busta Rhymes) + 8Ball Ft. MJG, Project Pat, Yung D, Devius, & Juicy, "This Aint"

8Ball Ft. MJG, Project Pat, Yung D, Devius, & Juicy, “This Aint” (Right Click + Save As)
Southern legend 8Ball drops a steel drum backed track with the Memphis All-Stars. Now this song is legit – got such a jam out beat whichs fits perfectley with the large amount of dope one liners from the likes of Juicy from Three6Mafia and Project Pat. Also on the track is 8Balls partner in crime MJG.
Also check out this track below – a nice guest verse from Ross over this track from Big Mike who also holds it down. Beat is interesting.
Bonus: Big Mike f. Rick Ross, “Animals” (Prod. by Chops) (Right Click + Save As)

Jay Rock – All My Life (Remix) (Feat. The Game, Gorilla Zoe & Busta Rhymes)
West Coast MC Jay Rock dropped the OG version of this track a month or two back and it guest featured the Littlest Wayne. Weezy gets dropped and The Game, Gorilla Zoe and Buuusta Rhymes get on it and all drop some short verses. I wish Zoe and Game had longer verses, but what can ya do. Jay Rock’s album Follow Me Home is set to drop sometime in 2009.
