Mr. Peter Parker Slug & Ant Interview + Soundset 2009 Recap

Eminem x Amy Winehouse – Rehab vs. Relapse (Cookin’ Soul Mashup) + Rick Ross vs. Miami Vice – Miami Bawse Hustlin’ (Cookin’ Soul Mashup)

The Dream – Walking On The Moon ft. Kanye West (Video) + Fabolous – Throw It In The Bag (ft. The-Dream) (Video) + Fabolous – It’s My Time (ft. Jeremih) (Video)

Video for “Walking On The Moon” featuring Kanye West off The Dream’s latest album Love vs. Money. I still love the production on this track and the majority of the tracks on this album. Though I know The Dream is real hit or miss with most people. I enjoy it most of the time – the beats at least. I don’t know – this video is kinda tacky though.

+++

Ever since the days of Napster have I been paying attention to Fabolous. For whatever reason he was one of the mainstream MCs I was always checking out back when I knew less about rap. I remeber listening to “Can’t Deny It” on dial-up internet. But anyway Fabo leaked these two tracks – “Its My Time” featuring Jeremih and “Throw It In The Bag” featuring The Dream a little over a month ago and I must say both have been on my weekend playlists consistently since they dropped. The videos are out – I like “It’s My Time” way more than than the other but both are worth jamming. Look for Fabo’s album Loso’s Way to drop in late June. LOSO!

Brother Ali: KarmaloopTV Interview Part 2 + 2 New Tracks Off Street Preacher (Live at Soundset)

Jake-One – Home ft. Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish (Video)

I was literally just re-bumping Jake-One’s White Van Music the other day and here today the video for the track “Home” featuring Vitamin D, C Note, Maine & Ish (of Digable Planets) drops for all to enjoy. Easily one of my favorite tracks off the album. Dope shit.

Kinda whack that Jake-One and Freeway (featuring Brother Ali HOW PERFECT!!) didn’t play their track off White Van Music at Soundset but it’s whatever they still killed it.

RHYMESAYERS SAY WHAT?

Kanye West – Paranoid (feat. Mr. Hudson) (Video) + Blueprint 3 News

UPDATE: Kanye has stated that this video is nowhere near the actual video for Paranoid – so that explains why the video has been taken down. Explanation via Kanye’s blog can be read here.

New video from Mr. Kanye West for the track “Paranoid” off last years 808s & Heartbreak. The video stars the ever so gorgeous Rihanna.

On a side note Kanye let off some great news about Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3. It will be auto-tune free. I knew Jay would never get on that auto-tune business anyway.

Kanye West Promises Blueprint 3 Will Be “Anti-Auto-Tune”

Kanye revealed that he and Jay went back in and made some alterations to B3 since they first started.

“We actually removed all the songs with Auto-Tune off of his album,” West said, “to make the point that this is an anti-Auto-Tune album, even though I released an album that has all Auto-Tune!

“It doesn’t matter to me,” Kanye laughed about Jay not wanting to incorporate the sound that is featured so heavily on Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak. “It’s music; it’s just sonics. I like Auto-Tune so I do it, but you want the other thing — like you’ll wear a suit to a wedding and gym shoes to a basketball game. I think it’s a perfect moment for Jay to provide some gym shoes to a basketball game right now.”

Party Jams: Jay Sean feat. Lil Wayne – Down + Shawty Lo – 911 ft. Rick Ross, Bun B & Lyfe Jennings + Birdman – Always Strapped (Remix) f. Lil Wayne, Rick Ross & Young Jeezy + IYAZ – Replay

Jay Sean ft. Lil Wayne – Down (prod. Drumma Boy)

I posted this a week or so back but this time the tagless version is out. Enjoy loving or enjoy hating it. Like I said I bet this will be in the top of iTunes as soon as it drops. How much you think Wayne charges for a guest verse now days?

+++

Shawty Lo – 911 ft. Rick Ross, Bun B & Lyfe Jennings

I certainly wouldn’t call myself a Shawty Lo fan but I think he does have one hell of a voice for a MC. I’d say Gorilla Zoe, Trae and Jeezy have that similar feel. Nah mean? Anyways this track is pretty poppin – BUN B!

+++

Birdman – Always Strapped (Remix) f. Lil Wayne, Rick Ross & Young Jeezy

Jeezy and Ross hop on Birdman’s single “Always Strapped” which already featured the littlest Wayne.

+++

IYAZ – Replay (Prod. J.R. Rotem)

Alright this has summer single written all over it. Get ready to hear this one on the radio, every party, bar or club you attend for the next 3 months. Awfully sugary – enjoy loving it or enjoy hating it. Plus I couldn’t resist posting that picture. haha…

Brother Ali – Good Lord (Video) & Interview + P.O.S & Toki Wright Soundset Backstage Interviews (Video)

Toki Wright Interview

Kia Shine ft. Young Dro + Maino – Checkin’ My Fresh

Kia Shine ft. Young Dro & Maino – Checkin’ My Fresh

I like this. I always find it interesting when samples are from tracks that are newer than older. Kia Shine, famous for his track “So Krispy”, which I jammed not embarrased, hops on a pretty poppin beat which features a nice Jay-Z sample from his track “Jockin Jay-Z.” Kia recruits Grand Hustle homie Young Dro and NYC rapper Maino to hop on for some guset verses and they with out a doubt overshadow Kia himself. I always get a kick out of rappers that get worked on their own track. Though I’m not surprised.

Fake Shore Drive x Timbuck2 x The Cool Kids – The Fake Shore Drive Mixtape

- Fake Shore Drive

Andrew over at Fake Shore Drive just let go his first mixtape hosted by The Cool Kids. As you can see by the description above this is definitley worth checking out. Truthfully I haven’t given it a quality listen yet because it just dropped but if you wan’t to get some of the best hip-hop coming out of Chicago right now – I assure you this is a good opportunity.

I wish I could bump Fake Shore while driving down Lake Shore. ha. Chicago readers what up?

EDIT: Damn, this Lupe track is literally FIRE!!!!

Wale – Hot Shyt f. Peedi Crakk, Black Thought, TUphace & Young Chris + Alexipharmic – Stardust f. P.O.S., Grynch, Cas One & Sarah Smalley +Saigon – Change Gon’ Come

Wale – Hot Shyt ft. Peedi Crakk, Black Thought, TUphace & Young Chris

This is not off the up and coming Wale and 9th Wonder mixtape but it’s some new Wale nevertheless. Some real nice guest verses though from Black Thought of The Roots and Young Chris.

On a side note check out this dope footage of Wale performing “Chillin” during the Minneapolis tour stop. Live Bands>A Good DJ>A Bad DJ.

+++

Alexipharmic – Stardust ft. P.O.S., Grynch, Cas One & Sarah Smalley

I honestly only took notice of this track because of a guest verse from P.O.S. Apparentley this is from an album titled American Beauty thats a month old from an artists by the name of Alexipharmic. I’m glad Shake over at 2dopeboyz posted it up because I would of missed this.  This beat is FIRE.

Real nice track – I’m going to check out the rest of the album sounds interesting based of this summary below:

Most of American Beauty was written while on a 30 state, 10,000-mile road trip.  Throughout the journey Alex interviewed countless men, women, and children of all walks of life at each stop.  He ended up weaving the broad spectrum of the stories he recorded on the road with his own unique personal experiences.  The result is an album that breathes with energy and ambition, and reflects the hopes, broken dreams, unity, division, optimism and voice of our current society.

Saigon – Change Gon’ Come (prod. The Kickdrums)

I was all about Saigon but when material just never dropped I really lost interest. But this track can’t be ignored. So check out this new joint from Saigon produced by up and comers The Kickdrums. Real dope track.

Midwest Broadcast Presents Flyover Land, Vol. 1

I’m a day late on this cause I’m so busy but a big congrats to Mike over at Midwest Broadcast. This project looks and sounds amazing. This is only Vol. 1! Stay tuned for Vol 2 in the fall.

Maino – All the Above (Remix) ft. T-Pain & Young Jeezy + Scratch – Ready To Go ft. Kanye West & Consequence + Lil Wayne Tracks

Maino – All the Above (Remix) f. T-Pain & Young Jeezy

I guess I sort of like the original. I have noticed that this track has been getting quite a bit of radio play and has been in and outta of the iTunes Top 10 Hip Hop since it dropped. Well Jeezy just hopped on for an official remix. Anything Jeezy touches is a mandatory post in my eyes.

+++

Jay Sean- Down ft. Lil Wayne [Tags]

Well there is no doubt in my mind that it’s only a matter of time before this song blows up on the radio. No idea who the hell Jay Sean is though – not that I really care. Tagged up. Pretty sugary auto-tune pop music but that is what our generation has embraced so….

Lil Wayne feat. Gudda Gudda – Politics (Tags)

Another leak off Rebirth but it’s all tagged up. It’s amazing how excited I was about the Carter III and how completley uninterested I am about Rebirth. Wayne what happened?

+++

Formely a member of The Roots, beatboxer Scratch has a new album titled Loss 4 Wordz, dropping next Tuesday, May 26th. The Kanye track is kinda fresh.

NahRight? and 2dopeboyz assisting on all the links.

Slug B96 Freestyle (Video – 2008)

Slug (of Atmosphere) – B96 Freestyle

I sniped an MP3 of this freestyle from Shake over at 2dopeboyz almost a year ago. Well it looks like Mr. Peter Parker finally found someone to put some video together for one hell of a (8 minute) freestyle from my man Slug. I mean come on who the hell can freestyle like that? What I love about Slug is that he can actually fucking freestyle not this recycled lines bullshit that so many rappers do. Plus come on now – gotta be some of the dopest Minnesota related lines I’ve heard. This is a must watch as Slug is truly a master of his craft.

I was laughing when Mr. Peter Parker hit the dump button after Slug said he was “just jerkin off over here.”

Edina shout out? say whaaaat?

Slug on Felt 3 (Decider – Twin Cities Interiew)

Decider: Are you working on another Atmosphere record?

Slug: Not as of yet. We’ll start in September. I just finished another Felt record. It’s getting mixed as we speak, and once it gets turned in, then the label will pick a [release] date.

Decider: Is that dedicated to a particular female, like Felt and Felt, Vol. 2, were dedicated to Christina Ricci and Lisa Bonet, respectively?

S: Yes.

Decider: Is that information under wraps?

S: Yes. I’m not allowed to divulge the actress or the producer.

Slug Decdier – Twin Cities Interview

To read the rest of the interview click above.

Slug gives a pretty normal interview about Atmospheres extensive touring, what it’s like to be an established act in hip-hop and most importantly in my mind, he talks about the release of Felt 3. If your not aware Felt consits of Slug and Murs – the duo has two albums under their belt – both of which are produced by Ant. If my copy of Felt 2: A Tribute To Lisa Bonet was a record – it definitely would not work anymore.

Also some exicting news – Atmosphere/Slug seems to have a side project that will drop sometime later this year.

Decider: Atmosphere’s been putting out a lot of EPs—you guys have been sort of tireless. Is there still stuff in reserve for Atmosphere?

S: Yeah, you know, I actually have another leaker record [a follow-up to 2007’s Strictly Leakage], but we’re just trying to figure out when and how would be the best time to put it out.

Big ups to Decider-Twins Cities for the real dope interview.

Atmosphere, Brother Ali, C-Raylz & Mudkids Freestyle on Stage

A real nice freestyle session from Atmosphere, Brother Ali, C-Rayz Walz, and Indianapolis hip-hop duo Mudkids at a tour stop in Indianapolis. I was kind of pissed because there was not a Chicago tour stop on this tour. Anyway, I’ve been reading and watching various freestyles go up on YouTube as it seems to be a staple of this tour. Good stuff and a very nice rendition of “Smart Went Crazy” for the beat. Dope group of MCs.

I can’t wait to watch Atmosphere and Brother Ali headline Sounset on Sunday.

Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa – Rolling Up + U-N-I – Land Of The Kings

Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa – Rolling Up

FLLLLLY SOCIETTTTY!

This will not be featured on the upcoming Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa mixtape but it still bumps. Two of my favorite up and coming MCs coming together for a mixtape titled How Fly, which will drop by the end of May.

+++

U-N-I – Land Of The Kings

New single from Inglewood, CA natives U-N-I. I think this is off their project Land of Kings which is coming soon.

Eyedea & Abilities – This Story

Eyedea & Abilities – This Story

After a five year hiatus one of my favorite groups outta Minnesota is back at it. Just yesterday a press release went out officially announcing a new album from the duo with a release date set for July 21st. As if the announcement of the new album titled By The Throat wasn’t big enough – Rhymesayers just let off the first single titled “This Story.” It’s not exactly typical E&A but damn it’s still fresh. Lovin’ the album art too.

Eyedea & Abilties Myspace

Check out the press release below:

A duo thoroughly steeped in hip-hop accolades, the Minnesota-based duo Eyedea and Abilities have returned with their brand new album By The Throat, out July 21st on Rhymesayers Entertainment. Their first album since the breakout 2004 release E&A, By The Throat’s songs range from intensely personal topics to the more esoteric (quantum mechanics). The end result is leaps and bounds beyond what MC Eyedea is perhaps best known for, his prowess as a battle rapper (winner of HBO’s Blaze Battle, Scribble Jam and several others). DJ Abilities, also a well-known battle vet and contributor to El-P’s now-classic Fantastic Damage, adds heavily to the sonic soundscape of this album, which advances beyond boom-bap hip-hop into rock-fueled guitar riffs, gritty production and melodic songwriting.

Eyedea and Abilities were instrumental in the wave of independent hip-hop that includes Atmosphere, El-P, Aesop Rock, Living Legends and several other seminal acts. By The Throat is their most progressive and refined effort to date.

E & A will be performing at Rhymesayers’ Soundset ‘09 on May 24th and will be headlining a tour in the fall of 2009.

Dorrough – Ice Cream Paint Job (Video)

I’ve listened to this track probably 50 times over the last week. Enjoy!
