Dave Coresh, 3D, & Jordan Looney – Rewind + Curren$y – Rapper Weed (prod. Tony Baines)

Dave Coresh, 3D, & Jordan Looney – Rewind

These 3 chicago MCs come together in order to showcase their lyrical abilities. Coresh takes the cake (so he gets the photo) but all these dudes clearly hold their own. Looking forward to more material from all these cats. Shouts to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as well as MWB for the linkage.

Also shouts to Looney – make sure you cop his Nerd-Hop 2 mixtape.

Add-2 – School Daze (prod. Slot-A)

This will not be on Chicago rapper Add-2’s upcoming mixtape Tale of Two’s City v.3, but is a very dope track regardless. Always nice to have some new material from Add-2. Also the video for his track “Starter Jacket” with prodction from Jaguar Skills is apparently on the way.

You can check out all the artwork and extras etc etc over at the mixtape’s official website so make sure you check it out it looks pretty dope: ChurchLeagueChampions.com. I haven’t had a chance to listen to this yet but Pac Div never fails.

Evidence signs to Rhymesayers Entertainment

The future is looking bright. 2010 is gonna be a lot of fun.-See you soon! — Normally I wouldn’t glorify signing a “contract” -but this is a very good,”Agreement” much love.

After expanding to Abstract Rude, Jake-One and Freeway within the last few years Rhymesayers has added west coast rapper/producer and Dialated Peoples member Evidence. Check out the video above of Evidence signing his “agreement” to join the Rhymesayers family. Rhymesayers will be the label represenative for his upcoming album Cats & Dogs. As a dedicated fan of the Rhymesayers label I must say this is a very welcome addition. I remember meeting Evidence way back in 2006 as DP were promoting their album 20/20 with an in-store performance and meet and greet at Fifth Element. I was a young hip-hop fan and Evidence was very apprecitave of everyone being there. Also very dope to learn Ev will be touring alongside Brother Ali this fall.

Full Rhymesayers press release below:

Grammy winning rapper and producer Michael “Evidence” Perretta signs multi album deal with Indie powerhouse Rhymesayers Entertainment. As one-third of the venerable Los Angeles Hip Hop staple Dilated Peoples, Evidence has spent the better part of his decade plus in the game, touring the globe and collectively selling well over 700,000 units. In addition to his Dilated work, Evidence has produced tracks for the Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, Defari, Planet Asia and more, including co-production on Kanye West’s debut The College Dropout.

In 2007, Evidence set out to solidify his solo career with the release of the critically acclaimed The Weatherman LP. Followed up by 2008’s The Layover EP and over 200 shows, Evidence has spent the last couple of years building a foundation of supporters, fan by fan. With this momentum Evidence knew he needed a team that could match his current pace and energy. When asked about his choice of partnering up with Rhymesayers Evidence explained, “This is the most natural move I could have made to further the evolution of my career, while maintaining my identity and passion for the music. Rhymesayers has a proven track record of being focused and dedicated to their artists and I’m excited to be a part of that.”

Evidence will be touring this Fall as direct support on Brother Ali’s Fresh Air Tour while putting the finishing touches on his Rhymesayers debut Cats & Dogs slotted for release early 2010.

Mac Lethal – Woodchip Grinder ft. Aesop Rock & Soulcrate + YP – Words Of Wisdom ft. Mikkey Halsted

Mac Lethal – Woodchip Grinder ft. Aesop Rock & Soulcrate

Kansas City rapper Mac Lethal drops the first track off his Love Potion 5. I wasn’t really feeling Mac Lethal when I first heard his stuff then I started actaully paying attention to his lyrics and I saw him open up for Atmosphere and he basically started the party. A real dope bluesy guitar riffed track featuring Aesop Rock and Soulcrate. These guys all pretty much shred this beat with their respective verses. If you haven’t checked out Mac Lethal’s Rhymesayers release 11:11 yet I suggest getting it now. I’d assume to look out for Love Potion 5 dropping soon.

YP – Words Of Wisdom ft. Mikkey Halsted

Chicago homie YP goes in on this one with the help of fellow Chicagoan Mikkey Halsted. Off his upcoming album Classified which is set to drop next week. Excited about this release because “I Hustle” is my jam.

speaking of Mikkey Halsted…

Mikkey Halsted – Y.F.F. f. Miss Criss

Surf Club – The Wood

Surf Club – The Wood

Surf Club is the entourage behind super producer Polow Da Don – except all these guys are just as talented and eager as their mentor. Clearly a perfect party track made to play in the wee-hours of the morning with a catchy crooning hook and smooth yet throbbing beat. This is the perfect track to throw on as the drinks stop flowing….as you make your move toward the girl you have been eyeing all night through the smokey haze. This is the first single off their upcoming album which is set to drop later this year.

Surf Club is made up of Chase N. Cashe, Hit Boy, Chili Chil and B. Carr. Currently the group and its various members are working on projects with Rich Boy, Diddy, Robin Thicke and The Game.

These producers have made a bit of noise the last year with their track I Can’t Miss featuring Lil Wayne. Now, you can tell these fellas aren’t rappers but the beat is perfect for an auto-tuning Lil Wayne.

Surf Club Feat. Lil Wayne – I Can’t Miss

props to The Smoking Section.

Freeway – Blogger (prod. Jake One) + Fly.Union – Poed Up ft. Big Sean

Freeway – Blogger (prod. Jake One)

Hell yeah. What is this 3 or 4 Freeway tracks in the last few days? Although the idea of spitting lines about bloggers is an immediate turn off….knowing this is the very first single from the Stimulus Package – an upcoming album with exclusive production from Seattle’s Jake-One pretty much seals the deal on this one. The fact that it’s a Rhymesayers release just fuels the fire. This track could be stronger….not exactly the power I was hoping to hear from this duo. I’m sure as hell not giving up on this project though.

+++

Fly.Union – Poed Up ft. Big Sean

I’ve really been feelin’ a lot of the tunes coming from these Ohio natives the last few months. This time Fly.Union picks up G.O.O.D music up and comer Big Sean for a few bars. Good to see all these guys making some noise.

girls these days ain’t nothing but trouble…

Amen to that!

tipping my hat – 2dopeboyz with the links.

Rakim – Holy Are You + Freeway – All the Cities ft. Young Chris + J-Live – Super Good

Rakim – Holy Are You

Brand new track from the Lord Rakim himself. The is the first single after his much anticipated and often delayed 3rd solo album, The Seventh Seal. It has been almost 10 years since he last released an album! I wish I could post up an mp3 but streaming tracks are all to be found. Damn do I love this track. This is hip-hop. Incredible David Axelrod sample as well.

+++

Freeway – All the Cities ft. Young Chris

Phili Freeway joins up with the homie Young Chris to drops some bars over this jazzy beat. Real smooth joint right here. Dope stuff. I love all this Freeway material dropping. The Stimus Package with exclusive production from Jake-One drops via Rhymesayers sometime in 2009.

+++

J-Live – Super Good (prod. Domingo)

This might be one of the most hip-hop posts I’ve posted in a minute. Ha! The very talented J-Live comes together with producer Domingo for this heavy based banger. The title says it all.

Young Son – Success Is… + Trey Lane – Bars

Young Son – Success Is…

Twin Cities very own Young Son is back with the first single from his upcoming album Dreamer’s Poety. Young Son also dropped a mixtape a few weeks back which I posted up – which I hope you didn’t sleep on the first time. You can check out the mixtape titled Counting Sheep right here. Shouts to Young Son – making some serious noise up on Nah Right & 2DopeBoyz!

Trey Lane – Bars

South Dakota rapper Trey Lane drops a few bars for all to enjoy! Check out his MySpace for some more tracks. Shouts to MWB for the link.

Twista – Alright f. Kanye West (prod. Kanye West & No I.D.) + Curren$y – Damier Doobies

Twista – Alright f. Kanye West (prod. Kanye West & No I.D.)

Twista recruits two of Chicago’s finest for this iTunes bonus track off Twista’s latest Category F5 which dropped in stores today! Chi-town what up? I’m about take my first listen through the album – I’ve been slackin. Though “Wetter” as the first single was a very poor choice.

+++

Curren$y – Damier Doobies

Fly Society homie and New Orleans native Curren$y drops another free gem via Twitter for the masses to enjoy. This one bumps. More people need to pay attention to Fly Society. Especially the mixtape that they dropped last week that you can pick up here.

P.O.S. – Purexed (Video)

Easily my favorite track off P.O.S. latest album Never Better finally gets a music video. The video for “Purexed” just dropped and P.O.S. never fails to keep up the creativity. A real dope video which has this still photo effect which shows P.O.S. going around Minneapolis promoting a show with his band Building Better Bombs. Cameos galore. Love the video! I might have to head to Warped tour just to support when he comes through Minneapolis on August 2nd.

Listen To M.P.L.S. – Episode 38 with King Otto

Listen To M.P.L.S. – Episode #38 with King Otto

The gang chats the day after 4th of July as they have DJ King Otto on for some nice conversation.

Toki Wright – A Different Mirror (Live on 89.3 The Current)

I caught a little bit of Toki Wright’s interview and performance on 89.3 The Current the other night. It looks like they already have some nice video footage of his performance uploaded to YouTube. He peforms “A Different Mirror” above and I must say it is easily one of my favorite tracks on the album. The beat is seriously fresh.

Toki also has an interview up with Velour Pistol Magazine – you can check it out here.

Slaughterhouse – The One (Uncut Video)

I don’t know what it is about Slaughterhouse but I’m really feelin the work they are putting in. Here is a dope ass video for their single “The One” off the Slaughterhouse LP which is set to drop August 11th. This beat is knockin and I have been bumpin it ever since it dropped, production from DJ Khalil. I also love how Joe Budden and Joell Ortiz rap back and forth at the end of the track. Directed by the very busy Rik Cordero. Dope video – I love how blogs have made music videos more popular again. Cause MTV sure isn’t playing any videos. But who gives a shit about MTV anyway. Real nice video – I dig it!

Fabolous – Salute ft. Lil Wayne + Drake – The Winner (prod. Tha Bizness)

Fabolous – Salute ft. Lil Wayne

This is a bit of a catch up post – so bear with me.

It seems that someone got a hold of Loso’s Way before it drops on July 28th. Still one of my most anticipated releases this year. I’m not sure how it sounds because I haven’t listened to it yet. Sometimes I don’t like listening to leaks – I wanna listen to this album all the way through and have it be fresh for my ears.

+++

Drake – The Winner (prod. Tha Bizness)

Word is this track will be on Drake’s debut album Thank Me Later which is set to drop sometime this year. Here are some more Drake mixtape tracks as well as the entire mixtape itself. On a side note I think I heard “Every Girl” maybe 50+ times this weekend. People love the shit outta that song. Not that I blame them.

Guante & Big Cats! – Harry Potter (Remix) ft. Chantz

Guante & Big Cats! – Harry Potter (Remix) ft. Chantz

Tru Ruts/Speakeasy Records presents a FREE download of the remixed/re-worked “Harry Potter,” a song that finds emcees Guante and Chantz using the book/film series as a metaphor for smashing down the walls of the literary/musical/artistic canon. Over a brooding, propulsive Big Cats! beat, the two rappers touch on hip hop, culture and much more, all the while dropping punchlines that play off of the book’s many characters and ideas. Fresh off their appearance at Soundset ’09, Guante & Big Cats! are dropping this song for free as an appetizer to their upcoming zombie-superhero-love-story, the concept album “An Unwelcome Guest.”

Eyedea & Abilities – Spin Cycle (Live Video)

On June 13th Eyedea & Abilities performed their new album “By The Throat”, which drops 07.21.09, for an intimate audience at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis, MN. Each song was prefaced with a short story or an explanation about that song. Michael Gaughan, the artist responsible for the album artwork, did a watercolor painting of the duo while they performed. “Spin Cycle” is the first video in this series so stay tuned. More videos to come!

BK-One & Benzilla – Rádio do Canibal (Video + Album Art)

Alright I’m back from my blogging hiatus. Sometimes ya just need a breather. When I checked out Content Under Pressure a couple weeks back Benzilla mentioned he was working on an album with BK-One. Well in the video below the duo sheds some more light on the project which is titled Rádio do Canibal. This sounds like one hell of an album. BK-One literally went down to Brazil and did some crate digging – as the album will feature all Brazillian samples. It also appears that the album has some serious guest verses from the likes of Black Thought of The Roots, Raekwon and I Self Devine. Look for the album to drop sometime this fall.

The duo will be at Last of The Record Buyers on August 20th to discuss the album.

Over the last few years BK-One has been the man behind the wax for Brother Ali as his touring DJ. He also has released a variety of mixes over the last few years. Benzilla is a DJ/producer from Minneapolis who has produced for I Self Divine, Big Quarters and more recentley a handful off tracks of Toki Wright’s latest album A Different Mirror.

So before you head off to the midnight showing of Bruno tonight make sure you head over to Fifth Element to check out Content Under Pressure #2. Here is all the info below.

Hope to see you all there!

If your to lazy to check it out or aren’t a reader in the Twin Cities – make sure you watch it over at the live stream!

REDBULL MUSIC ACADEMY & LAST OF THE RECORD BUYERS PRESENT: Content Under Pressure #2
VENUE: 5TH ELEMENT 2411 Hennepin Ave S Mpls, MN 55405
DATE: 7-9-09
TIME: 6 PM until 10:30 PM
MISC: ALL AGES & FREE EVENT
Webstream: http://www.livestream.com/contentunderpressure

Hosted By Toki Wright

-The Invited Artists:

1)PRODUCERS: GMO, Mike Swoop, Cory Grindberg, Baby Gracious &
Cayriss
2)MCS: Ibe, Yakub, Chantz, Prizm, & Truth Be Told

-The Event: On the day of the event the artists will be randomly put together and be given 3 hours to prepare a song to perform that same night. Artists will be set up at various tables in 5th Element and prepare their song with mobile production units and headphones. Customers/Fans will be able watch the whole process while shopping or just hanging out. It will also be streamed live on the internet. Producers can make a beat on the spot or bring a variety of beats for the MC to choose from, but should be able to “arrange” the track specifically for the event regardless. MCs can do a pre-written song (must be an unreleased song) or write on the spot but they can NOT freestyle.

-The Point: To show artists how to work in a high pressured situation that could require being prepared to collaborate other artists with limited time. A situation similar to the one presented at Red Bull Academy as well as what could occur in real life situations. Plus give the rising talent an opportunity to do what the do best in a public setting to help encourage networking and promotions.

-Oh yeah, there will be one “SPECIAL” artist pairing with two key local Minneapolis artists as an added bonus! I can’t announce them or then they would know who they are working with…. :)

-REDBULL ACADEMY INFO:

The only way to apply for the Redbull Music Academy is come to the event and get an application/CD!

Just in case, for those that don’t know, Red Bull Music Academy is a pretty cool venture. There’s a lot to it but basically every year the academy accepts applications from musicians of all types, varying ages, varying degrees of success (unknown to established), all walks of life, and all of the world. It’s a lengthy process but they go thru it and pick the top applicants for that years “academy”. If accepted the artists all go to special location together (they’ve gone to London, Barcelona, etc…) and do various workshops, lectures, recording, performances, etc… They have special guest like Chuck D, Dennis Coffey, etc… give lecture and also work in the studio with the applicants. It’s a pretty amazing program, check out more info here: http://redbullmusicacademy.com/
