B.o.B – Not Lost ft. T.I. (prod. J.R. Rotem)

This one was left off B.o.B.’s new album due to the Coldplay sample not getting cleared. A few years ago a track like this never would of seen the light of day.  Wish this one could of made the album. Very dope and it features T.I..

B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray drops this Tuesday, April 27th. Buy it! I know I will.

N.E.R.D. – Hot & Fun ft. Nelly Furtado

N.E.R.D. – Hot & Fun ft. Nelly Furtado

Long ago I wasn’t really into hip-hop at all. I distinctly remember finding their debut album In Search Of… in my dad’s CD pile and getting really into it as soon as I pressed play. I was really into rock/alternative and this just seemed so accessible to me. I mean the first track is “Lapdance” and I was only in 6th or 7th grade. Sweet!

There was a time in my life where if you asked me my favorite band, I would of said N.E.R.D. I would still list them as one of my favorites today. I’m a huge Pharrell/Neptunes fan and I can’t tell you how excited I am for the new album set to drop this summer. This is the first glimpse of what we can expect and I like what I’m hearing so far.

Looks like it will be a good soundtrack for the summer…and it’s gonna be a fun one.

Game – Shake (Travis Barker Remix) + Game – Slangin’ Game (prod. Scoop Deville)

I’ve been fan of “Shake” since it dropped. I just dig the concept. A video for it will be dropping on Monday, April 26th. I’ll be sure to post. Of course Travis does what he does best on this one. I’ve also included a track from Game’s new mixtape The R.E.D. Room which also drops Monday.

M.I.A. – Born Free

M.I.A. – Born Free

New music from one of my favorite artists, M.I.A. This may or may not be off her new album dropping this summer. No word yet but the album drops June 29th. I really like the punk route she is going with this one. I’ve read this new album is going to be something different but refreshing.

Kanser – Positive Punclines ft. Alicia Steele (Video)

Kanser drops some fresh Minnesota visuals for the track “Positive Punchlines” featuring my favorite podcaster Alicia Steele. Off the album Two For One. I love this video.

Toki Wright – Say Something Freestyle

Toki Wright – Say Something Freestyle

Why can’t all rappers be this consistent? Toki does what he does best over this Timbaland/Drake beat. Y’all better check out Toki’s set at Soundset this year. Don’t sleep.

Los Nativos – White Papers EP

Los Nativos – White Papers EP

Although Los Na has been quiet recently, you better believe they are always working on something like music, art or organizing! While working on new music for their next release they came across 3 songs that fit the theme for April 20th (4:20). In true Los Nativos fashion these are not your typical “weed” songs. From concepts of using the “topic” of the day as a tool to make money and the moral struggle around it, to the desire of law enforcement to catch certain people or class of people with anything illegal, or it’s cultural and medicinal use to just smoking. What ever your thoughts on the day maybe you will enjoy the music. Maybe more if you smoke one first!

Los Nativos – White Papers
1. “Expired DL” produced by Xilam Balam
2. “The Bricks” feat. St. Paul Slim produced by Felipe Cuauhtli
3. “Let’s Puff” produced by Medium Zach of Big Quarters

If you don’t know Los Nativos – you better study up on your Twin Cities hip-hop history. This dropped yesterday, but I was at Raekwon. Dope to see Medium Zach and St. Paul Slim on here too.

Fat Joe – Slow Down (Haha) ft. Jeezy

Fat Joe – Slow Down (Haha) ft. Jeezy

I got nothing against Fat Joe but I don’t find him very interesting though. He has been involved with some pretty classic tracks. No lie – this song is hot though. Beat is fire. Remember where you heard it first.

TRUTHLiVE – Rewind Rewind ft. Von Pea

TRUTHLiVE explains, “‘Remind Rewind’ is a reflective homage to hip-hop, primarily focused on my deep appreciation for the art of emceeing, and its profound impact on me as a kid/young adult.” He continues, “It is also a track about the emergence of a new generation of emcee’s carrying on the tradition.

This album is pretty dope – I highly recommend. The entire thing is produced by Jake-One.

Rest In Peace GURU

IT WAS A SAD DAY FOR ME TO GET CONFIRMATION ON THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO I WILL CONTINUE TO CALL MY BROTHER, KEITH ELAM, BETTER KNOWN AS GURU OF THE LEGENDARY GANG STARR.

FROM 1988-2004, WE EXPERIENCED SO MUCH SUCCESS TOGETHER THAT WE WERE ABLE TO EXPAND OUR BUSINESSES INDEPENDENTLY AND GIVE EACH OTHER WHAT GURU CALLED “CREATIVE SPACE”, BEFORE PLANNING TO REUNITE FOR OUR 7TH LP WHEN THE TIME WAS RIGHT. TRAGICALLY, WE WILL NEVER REACH THAT DAY.

I’VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON A LETTER SPEAKING ILL OF ME WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY WRITTEN BY GURU IN HIS DYING DAYS. ALL I WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS THAT OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE BUILT A HIP HOP LEGACY TOGETHER, AND NO ONE CAN RE-WRITE HISTORY OR TAKE AWAY MY LOVE FOR HIM. ONE THING I WOULD NEVER DO IS PLAY AROUND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS LIFE.

I WILL CELEBRATE GURU’S LIFE… I WILL HONOR HIS MEMORY… I WILL GRIEVE WITH THE ELAM FAMILY OVER HIS UNTIMELY DEATH… I WILL REMEMBER THE GANG STARR FOUNDATION AND ALL OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF GANG STARR WHO CAME BEFORE ME – WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER… MOSTLY, I WILL CHERISH EVERYTHING WE CREATED TOGETHER AS GANG STARR, FOREVER. I’M GONNA MISS HEARING HIS SIGNATURE MONOTONE VOICE WHEN HE WALKS IN THE ROOM, BUT THE SONGS WILL ALWAYS BRING IT BACK TO ME….HIS RHYME FLOWS WERE INSANE, AND I WILL NEVER REMOVE HIM FROM MY HEART AND SOUL…….REST IN PEACE TO THE MAN WHO FELT “SATISFACTION FROM THE STREET CROWD REACTION” … I LOVE YOU GOO…….DJ PREMIER.

A message from the one who knew him best.

B.o.B – Airplanes Pt. 2 ft. Eminem & Hayley Williams

B.o.B – Airplanes Pt. 2 ft. Eminem & Hayley Williams

I said I wasn’t going to post any more leaks from this album but I can’t ignore this one. Like I said, this is going to be one impressive debut album. I can’t wait to see this guy take off more than he already has. Excellent song right here.

My dad sent me this little blip on B.o.B.’s shoat Coachella.

Though an MC rapping over a DJ doesn’t necessarily make for the   most dynamic festival fodder, adding a full band to the mix for the   sake of live performance isn’t always the most natural fit, either.   But B.o.B, the nimble 21-year-old Atlanta rapper whose oft-delayed   debut album is finally coming out in a few weeks, not only makes this   work, he plays acoustic guitar for good measure, all without feeling   like some gimmicky rap-rock hybrid.

Pre-order the album now.

Mike Posner – April 25th at VLIVE (Chicago)

I can assure you this will be a party. Just take a look at some recent footage of Mike Posner performing at various colleges. Incredible the fan base this guy has.

I’ve been reading a lot of buzz about this Na Palm dude too.

Get tickets here.

Marvell Boys – Marvell Music (Video)

The Marvell Boys are a group of UK rappers who are clearly influenced by Southern trap music. I find it incredible to see the global influence of hip-hop in action. I just get more and more excited about the future of music as cultures collide to create something new. Taking elements of Grime, nailing down a catchy hook and incorporating it all over some booming synths and you have a recipe for success. At least on this track….

B.O.B. – Past My Shades ft. Lupe Fiasco

B.O.B. – Past My Shades ft. Lupe Fiasco

This the last one I’m posting from this album. The Adventures of Bobby Ray, drops April 27th. Incredible stuff. Word is this isn’t the mastered studio version. So buy the album.

This is going be one of the best albums released this year.

Yo Lupe, where is L.A.S.E.R.S at?

Uffie – ADD SUV ft. Pharrell

Uffie – ADD SUV ft. Pharrell

Y’all know I love anything Pharrell touches but this is actually pretty fresh. I know a lot of people say Ke$ha jacked everything (style, music) from Uffie. But who really cares?

Off Uffie’s highly anticipated debut album Sex, Dreams & Denim Jeans. This song bangs.
