The Dean’s List – Repeat

If you’re a regular here these guys need to introduction. A pretty impressive pop-hip-hop group out of Boston that can make some serious noise if they play their cards right. Yet another catchy beat with slick rhymes from the groups emcee, Sonny Shotz.
Nero – The FIFTH

That kid Nero is at it again. The NY emcee dropped a few experimental R&B tracks in the last month or so that I wasn’t feeling too much. But this one takes me back to when I first bumped Alive & Vibrant mixtape. Nero – keep spitting yo!
Mike Waxx says Nero’s next project Momentum is coming soon.
Snagged from Nero’s official blog: ChampagneYote.
Boog – Take Me Back x Disgusted X UMA All Day

This is Boog’s first time on Pwelbs.com but it won’t be his last. I’ve secretly been bumping his mixtape Are You NOT Entertained? for the last couple weeks. Chances are if you have run into me in person the last couple weeks I’ve told to you to listen to his tape. We are working on some artwork now etc. Expect some more news in the coming weeks.
Honestly, the dude slays beats with the word play.
Anyway…here are 3 tracks Boog has dropped via Twitter in the last week or so.

The Roots & John Legend – Hard Times (Live Cover)
Notice: Undefined offset: 1 in D:\Domains\haochen.me\wwwroot\tumblr\index.php on line 109
The best live band on the planet will be backing John Legend for a full album of covers of soul tunes from the 60s and 70s. This project should be unbelievable. Up top you get a glimpse of what is to come as they cover Baby Huey’s “Hard Times.”
The album is set to drop September 21, 2010.
The resulting album features eleven profoundly evocative songs infused with sounds of gospel, rock and reggae inflections with hip-hop influences. The album is highlighted by familiar tracks like “Wholly Holy” by Marvin Gaye and “Little Ghetto Boy” by Donny Hathaway mixed with the more obscure selections of Baby Huey and the Babysitters’ “Hard Times,” and “Hang on in There” by Mike James Kirkland.
“These songs sound so relevant now,” Legend says. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric. ‘Wake Up Everybody’ (the album’s first single, featuring contributions from Melanie Fiona and Common) has four verses—the first one is a general statement, the second is about education, third is about health care, and the fourth is about making a better environment. No editing needed.”
“When these songs were written, people were more spiritually in tune,” says Roots drummer/musical director Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson. “It was fresh from the civil rights era and there was a feeling of hope that maybe, yes, someday we will all be free. In 2010, not so much.”
The album features one original composition, Legend’s song “Shine,” which is featured in Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim’s upcoming documentary film Waiting for Superman. The song, a “Stevie-Wonder-meets-gospel” stunner, clearly demonstrates the strengths of this specific group of musicians. Wake Up! blends Legend’s expressive, thoughtful vocal interpretations with an element of funk that only The Roots can provide.

Cali Swag District – Teach Me How To Dougie (Remix) ft. Sean Kingston & B.o.B
I know this looks like a rather bizarre collaboration…well it is. No lie this absolutely being posted because of B.o.B.’s verse. He is getting away with murder right here! Not to mention I’m known to break out and “dougie” from time to time.

Donnis – Fashionably Late (Mixtape)

Donnis – Fashionably Late (Mixtape)
Hosted by Clinton Sparks, DJ Ill Will and DJ Rockstar
Brand new mixtape form ATL’s Donnis. As usual the energy is high on this one. A bunch of party records that make you wish it was Thursday night. As you can see below the tape features quite a few dope guest verses. Personally I can already tell it won’t have the longevity that Diary of ATL Brave had. Some tracks could be skipped and I’m never really big on skits etc. Oh well…Donnis still rips it. Looking forward to his debut album whenever that may be.

Dr. Dre ft. Jay-Z – Under Pressure (NMC Tags)

Dr. Dre ft. Jay-Z – Under Pressure (NMC Tags)
I was just as excited as the next guy when I first heard about the mere existence of this track. Two artists that are responsible for my love of hip-hop today. The leaders in their respective realms of hip-hop. The best living emcee and the best living producer. Months have passed since initial rumors started. The above photo only fanned the flames. We have what we are waiting for.
Off the bat I am disappointed. I’m assuming this isn’t the final mastered version of the track but I’m not sure I hear much potential anyway. Time will tell. As of right now, in my silly opinion, this track will get lost in the shadows of Dre’s slow paced release of Detox.
New Music Cartel had it first.
