Mac Miller – Best Day Ever (Mixtape)

Mac Miller – Best Day Ever (Mixtape)

Mac Miller is an artists who in my eyes has consistently grown with each verse, mixtape, and music video has dropped. I’ve got the kid’s live show and he brings the energy required in today’s hip-hop scene. Mac Miller definitely isn’t going anywhere and I have no problems with that.

Best Day Ever is the perfect next step. The tape features guest work and production from Wiz Khalifa, Just Blaze, ID Labs, Chuck Inglish and Khyrsis. This tape is a great transition into the Spring months.

This dropped last week and Mac crashed UStream, DatPiff and his own website trying to get this tape to the people. Word is the project snagged around 300,000 downloads in the first 24 hours. Tell me someone else who can pull that off right now?

Thumbs up!

Atmosphere – She’s Enough + “Family Therapy”

THIS. IS. CLASSIC.

Spin Magazine has a stream to the second track we’ve heard off The Family Sign. Can’t wait for the album to drop April 12th.

Atmosphere – She’s Enough

Leave it to these guys….

Pre-Order The Family Sign:
Fifth Element: http://bit.ly/gfXxe9
iTunes Deluxe: http://bit.ly/tfsitnspre
Amazon: http://amzn.to/atmostfs

In Part One of Group & Family Therapy, I introduce you to my clients: Sean, Anthony, Nathan and Erick. They are members of a music group called “Atmosphere.”

This video demonstrates how the behavior of each group member affects both the emotional reactions of the other individuals and the effectiveness of the group as a whole. You will see how the encouragement of direct dialogue between members of the group helps them to effectively communicate and resolve their interpersonal conflicts. The series of videos will show how a variety of therapeutic techniques change the dynamics of the group to create more synergistic creative energy.

I hope you find these videos instructive in your own psychotherapy practices.

Asher Roth – Back Home ft. Whatzisface & Chip Tha Ripper

Asher Roth – Back Home ft. Whatzisface & Chip Tha Ripper

Another joint that I grabbed to jam out to before I hit New York this past weekend. I’m such a sucker for samples like this. Verses are nice from all three parties. I’d like to hear more from Whatzisface.

Production from Chicago’s own Blended Babies.

Neako – Flesh ft. Wiz Khalifa

Neako – Flesh ft. Wiz Khalifa

I listened to this one quite a bit over the weekend. Definitely worth a post. It bangs!

Off Neako’s LOUDpack2: HIGHlights mixtape.

Game – Red Nation ft. Lil Wayne

Game – Red Nation ft. Lil Wayne

Game and Lil Wayne collaborations usually produce fiery results. This track is no exception. Game’s The R.E.D. Album has been up in the air for almost a year now. Perhaps we will see it drop in 2011.

Spotted at illRoots.

Chris Brown – Look At Me Now ft. Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes (Video)

This has been one of my favorite radio singles of the year so far. Great guest features and brilliantly simple production from Diplo & Afrojack.

I’ll be interested to see if more artists start grabbing producers from the electro and dubstep scenes. At this rate, I say yes.

Mos Def – World Premiere (Live Video)

Considering The Ecstatic was one of my favorite albums of the last couple years….any sign of new material from Mos Def is good news to me. No word on where this track will end up. Let’s only assume Mighty Mos has an album in the works.

Big Sean – Hometown (Video)

Off Big Sean’s Finally Famous 3. This sample is quite comforting!

Atmosphere – Just For Show (Video)

I’ve had “Just For Show” on repeat since it hit the net. I’m such a sucker for Ant’s production. Of course, Slug always gets my attention when it comes to the rhymes.

Atmosphere’s first proper album since 2008, The Family Sign hits stores on April 22. Pre-order at Fifth Element right now.

Buy “Just For Show” on iTunes.

Shouts to Rhymesayers.

Starring: Chloe
Director: Dave Wilson
DP: Ryan Thompson
Producer: Courtney Phillips
Produced by twitter.com/freeweather

Travis Barker – City Of Dreams ft. Clipse & Kobe

Travis Barker – City Of Dreams ft. Clipse & Kobe

The last time Clipse and Kobe collaborated resulted in one of my favorite songs off Til The Casket Drops.

Adding Travis Barker to the mix? Fantastic.

This one is off Barker’s Give The Drummer Some is set to drop March 15th.

Spotted at NahRight.

Mike Frey – Connect ft. Alicia Steele (Video)

Minneapolis producer Mike Frey drop the video for “Connect” featuring comforting vocals from Alicia Steele. This song is perfect for me today. A real nice jam for this cold rainy day in Chicago.

The video features Minneapolis artist Mickey Lluebbey.

Stream Mike Frey’s debut solo album Burnt Out over at his blog.

Wiz Khalifa – The Race

Wiz Khalifa – The Race** LINK FIXED**

Wiz drops what he calls “his favorite track” off his upcoming album Rolling Papers. I rock with this.

Available on iTunes.

Blueprint – So Alive (Video)

Being the Rhymesayers fanatic that I am you would think I know a lot more about Blueprint. I had his album 1988 in heavy rotation a few years back but have failed to catch up with his material until the last few weeks. It seems as if Blue has been a bit of hiatus as well. This is a new single and I must say I’m loving the vibe.

Have no fear, his next project Adventures in Counbter-Culture is on the way. Blueprint also just dropped his So Alive EP, available via iTunes, Amazon, or Fifth Element.

Spotted at Midwest Broadcast.

Doomtree x Gayngs – Affiliyated (Regrind EP)

Doomtree x Gayngs – Affiliyated (Regrind EP)

Minneapolis super group Gayngs gets a handful of their songs remixed “regrinded” by their good friends Doomtree. Now this is awesome!

To create the Gayngs’ Regrind EP all of the stems from the bands debut album, Relayted, were arbitrarily named and compiled into a list … [A] collection of producers and musicians … were then instructed to choose only 10, without knowing what songs they came from or what instruments they contained. One could choose anything from four sax solos and six bass lines, to eight keyboards and two background vocals. The combinations that could be chosen were indefinite…the only certainty was that the parts would all be set to the tempo of 69 beats per minute.

From there, the re-grinders were free to chop, pitch-shift, and otherwise pulverize the stems into a new, cohesive song. The only rule was that they must use all 10 stems they were given, and that the tempo must remain at GAYNGS’ standard 69 bpm.

01 Fight, Fuck, Fall Asleep (Sims: vox Cecil Otter: regrind)
02 Coercion Van (MK Larada: regrind)
03 Cologne & Water (Paper Tiger: regrind)
04 Draper Drunk (Mike Mictlan: vox, The Chocolate Ox: keys, Plain ole Bill: regrind)
05 No Scrubs (P.O.S: vox, regrind)
06 Sprinkle Juice (Lazerbeak: regrind)
07 Sand In The Lotion (Cecil Otter: regrind)

Lil Wayne – 6’7″ ft. Cory Gunz (Video)

Pusha T – Lost In The World

Pusha T’s solo mixtape Fear of God dropping soon! The top one is over Drake & Bun B’s track titled “Put It Down.” The second over Kanye’s joint of the same name.

Spotted at illRoots.

Mac Miller – Donald Trump (Video)

I’m a few days late on this one. Sue me. I’m busy changing your online music expierence. You’ll see one day.

This joint didn’t really get me at first but it’s grown on me since. The visuals are clean as usual but not the most exciting from Mac Miller X Rex Arrow Films.

Best Day Ever drops this Friday, March 11th. Thumbs up!

Asher Roth – More Cowbell

Asher Roth – More Cowbell

Asher has kind of fallen off the face of the Earth. I’m always down with  hearing more material from him though. Asher let loose the A Capella version of this joint.  Chicago’s own Blended Babies make it something special.

Spotted at illRoots.

Wiz Khalifa – Roll Up (Video)

Honestly, the video is a bit underwhelming. I still rock with this track though….pretty catchy. This obviously won’t reach Black & Yellow status but I can imagine this track getting pretty big.

Rolling Papers drops March 29th.

Sir Michael Rocks – Coochie Crook (Video)

I definitely rock with this track. I like how Chuck and Mikey are doing their own things right now. I’m still hype for The Cool Kids’s debut When Fish Ride Bicycles set to drop this Spring.

This one is off Mikey’s solo effort titled Rocks Report. Coming soon!

Spotted at Fake Shore Drive.

Mally – 7 Days (Prod. The Sundance Kid)

Presented by Pwelbs X The Airtime Collection X Wear Eric

Mally – 7 Days (Prod. by The Sundance Kid)

My people! You all are seeing the momentum and movement behind Mally and The Sundance Kid, right? Right!?!?!

These two are consistently impressing me with each and every edition of this monthly series. February’s edition showcases the versatility of Mally and The Sundance Kid. Mally tells a story we are all to familiar with. When Mally rhymes, people pay attention. Sundance? Well he gives us another booming beat with some serious attitude. That switch up at the 2:35 minute mark? Hot damn!

“7 Days is a musical tale of when a boy sees a girl and is instantly hooked so much so, that he willingly learns everything about her. The infatuation this boy has (as many might) becomes so strong that they can explain what the girl does from the time she goes to work all the way down to how she chews her food on a Tuesday. In this case, the chase just might be better than the catch… Or is it?”

Download all of Mally and Sundance’s previous collaborations below. Keep an eye out. The movement is just getting started! You should see and hear the things that are on the way. Shouts to the The Red Ring Regime!
