Distant Relatives is an amazing album. This track is definitely one of my favorites.
I haven’t talked about this album in a minute. Although I just listened through the entire for the first time today. For the most part I like how it came out.
I feel like I have been waiting forever for this album to drop. I haven’t lost interest but I’m not as hyped as I was when I first heard about this project. I’m probably just impatient. I hope this album shapes up to be one of the best this year.
Distant Relatives drops May 18th.

Nas & Damian Marley DJ Semtex Interview
I caught up with Nas and Damian Marley at Rock the Bells in L.A. They talk about their forth-coming ‘Distant Relatives’ project.
*The concept of Distant Relatives.
*How they hooked up.
*Working in the studio.
*K’naan gets the ultimate co-sign.
The Nas footage isn’t the best, but that’s how it goes when you get 10 minutes with one of the hottest rappers in the game in his tour bus, 12 minutes before he hits the stage. There wasn’t enough room on the tour bus for my camera crew.
Sidebar: this was shot before the Blueprint tracklist leaked.

The Roots premiered the title track off their new album on Jimmy Fallon last night. The album titled How I Got Over is set to drop October 20th. Word is the single is set to drop MP3 style next week!

Los Angeles based DJ Steve Aoki just did an incredible remix for the track “Gifted.” “Gifted” was the lead single off DJ duo N.A.S.A’s debut album The Spirit of Apollo which is in stores now.
Put this on the playlist for next weekend.
Presumably off their new album Flight 360 dropping soon. It certainly isn’t the next “Duffle Bag Boy” but it might be a single.

You know how some beats just are on another level? This is one of those. Damn I need an instrumental mp3 of this.
Check it out as super producer 9th Wonder plays a beat that he sent to Nas in hopes of him spitting on it.
The album features the signature instrumentation and musicianship of Marley with the hard hitting beats and lyrics of Nas. Throughout the course of their musical careers, the duo has taught each other and always admired each other’s style. Since first meeting in 1996 the two artists have shared a mutual respect and camaraderie that was most recently showcased on “Road to Zion,” a standout track from Damian’s critically acclaimed album, Welcome to Jamrock. After having such a positive experience working together, they have now joined forces again for Distant Relatives.
The album title refers not only to the bond of Nas and Damian, but the bond to their African ancestry, which inspired the album both musically and lyrically. “Africa is the backbone of the world and the foundation of everything and Africans are in a situation where they need help more than anywhere else,” notes Damian Marley. “We know there are dire situations here in America but when you look at America—with public libraries and free education—these are not opportunities most Africans have. It’s a completely different scale of trying to help people. As humans beings, we’re part of a human family.”
Nas agrees, “As an American, we have so much even in a so-called recession that a neighborhood like Queensbridge or Red Hook is Beverly Hills compared to the way people are living in Nigeria, Sierre Leone, and Ghana,” says the emcee. “So obviously if we making records with that theme, there’s gonna be things I want to build on. I think Africa has a lot to teach us.”
As a pretty big fan of both artists – I’m pretty pumped about this project. Damian’s last album was my shit. With both these minds behind this project – I’d imagine this project will turn out to be pretty impressive.
Distant Relatives is due out June 23rd.
